About the Program
Wharton Deferred MBA offers an opportunity for students who want to secure a seat in one of the top MBA programs in the world. After the completion of their undergraduate or master’s program, they can engage themselves in full-time employment for a period of 2-4 years. In this period, a student is free to explore their choice of careers, or launch a new business or work for a start-up, etc. After this, she/he will be in a better situation to increase the required skills and enhance knowledge for furthering her/his career growth.
Class Profile
In 2020, the Wharton Deferred MBA program had a total of 173 commits. 53% of them are females. All the commits represent a total of around 73 institutions. They come from different kinds of educational backgrounds. 43% come from STEM, 31% from business or Economics and 26% from Humanities or Social Sciences.
Eligibility Criteria
For being eligible to apply for the Wharton Deferred MBA program, the applicant can be a student of the final year of any undergraduate program or a Master’s degree program. The graduation should be complete between October of the last year to September of the next year.
Basically, anyone can apply who has not had any full-time work experience between her/his undergraduate and graduate studies.
Requirements for Applying
Before starting your application, it is imperative to know about different requirements for applying to the Wharton Deferred MBA program. Following are the details of all the required documents for applying –
1) Unofficial copies of college transcripts are required along with the final year fall and spring courses listed. The average GPA score of the recent commits is 3.79. Their GPA score range is 3.34-4.00.
2) GMAT/GRE scores – The average GMAT score of the recent commits is 741. Their GMAT score range is 590-790. The average score of the recent commits in the GRE Verbal range is 161.7 while their score range is 150-169. The average score of the recent commits in the GRE Quant range is 163.6 while their score range is 145-170. The GMAT/GRE scores should not be earlier than 5 years.
3) For international students, scores in language proficiency tests are required. Applicants can submit their TOEFL/PTE scores. These scores should not be earlier than 2 years.
4) Current resume – Please note that it should specify all the internships or part-time positions along with the future full-time position.
5) Letters of recommendations – 2 recommendations are required from the college faculty or a supervisor from an internship or part-time work experience or a community leader or an advisor, etc.
6) 2 essays – These are the same as required in a general MBA application. These essays are –
Essay 1: What do you hope to gain professionally from the Wharton MBA? (500 words)
Essay 2: Taking into consideration your background – personal, professional, and/or academic – how do you plan to make specific, meaningful contributions to the Wharton community? (400 words)

Optional Essay: Please use this space to share any additional information about yourself that cannot be found elsewhere in your application and that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee. This space can also be used to address any extenuating circumstances (e.g., unexplained gaps in work experience, choice of recommenders, inconsistent or questionable academic performance, areas of weakness, etc.) that you would like the Admissions Committee to consider.
7) A virtual team-based discussion – This happens after the Admissions Board has evaluated the application and sends an invite for the same.
Application Process
The application process for the Wharton Deferred MBA program (Moelis Advance Access Program) is similar to the application process for the general Wharton MBA program. The first thing to know before applying to the Wharton Deferred MBA program is the application deadlines and related dates.
The application deadline is generally in March every year. The invitations for interviews are sent by the mid of April and the process of interviews lasts up to the end of the month. Decisions regarding admissions are given by May every year which is followed by making a deposit by June.
One can apply to the Wharton Deferred MBA program online. A $100 application fee needs to be paid while making the application. After specifying all the details mentioned in the earlier section, the application process is complete. Once the Wharton MBA Admissions Office evaluates the applications, invitations to participate in the Team-Based Discussion along with interviews are sent to some applicants.
The process is not complete without a one-on-one interview with a member of the Admissions Office. All the applicants that are selected in the process are required to pay a split deposit of $1,000 on or before the deadline deposit date and $1,000 due the year of matriculation. Also, selected applicants are required to submit a yearly declaration of their intent to enrol in the Wharton MBA program and verification of their work experience.
