Kellogg Deferred MBA Program Details and Highlights

Kellogg school has recently started offering the Kellogg Deferred MBA program with the name of Kellogg Future Leaders Program. This program is open for all the undergraduates studying in the final years of their programs or students pursuing their Master’s programs without any full-time work experience. If you decide to apply to the Kellogg Deferred MBA program, you would be required to collect a lot of admissions-related information about the school. About the Program

The Kellogg MBA is one of the most well-known programs in the world. The Kellogg Deferred MBA program allows participants to take a deferral period of 2-5 years before joining the full-time MBA course program of Kellogg. This deferral period needs to be used for gaining full-time work experience in desired the professional area.

As part of the Kellogg Deferred MBA program, selected participants get access to premiere Kellogg resources along with support from a dedicated admissions officer. One can have access to Kellogg events and admissions personnel during the deferment period.

Also, this program offers a lot of flexibility to its participants. One can choose from a portfolio of MBA programs offered by the school. After the start of the program, a student can reassess which program seems right for her/him. They can switch among the different kinds of programs as per their interests and inclinations.

Class Profile

The most recent class of the Kellogg Deferred MBA program had a total of 559 students, out of which 40% were females. A total of 146 students, i.e. 26% of the total students were international participants. They came from different educational backgrounds like Business, Science, Technology, Humanities, etc. Not only educational backgrounds but also geographical diversity is also commonly seen in the classes of Kellogg.

Eligibility Criteria

While applying to the Kellogg Deferred MBA program, it is imperative to know who all are actually eligible to apply. Domestic as well as international students can apply for the program. Let us look at the precise eligibility criteria of the Kellogg Deferred MBA program –

a) Students who are going to complete their graduation from October of the previous year and September of the next year can apply.

b) Final year students who are completing their undergraduate programs in any discipline can apply.

c) Students pursuing their Master’s program directly after their undergraduate degree without a full-time work experience in between can also apply.

Please note that students pursuing their Ph.D., or enrolled in medical and law programs cannot apply to the Kellogg Deferred MBA program. They can apply through the standard process of admissions in the MBA program.

Requirements for Applying

It is a good idea to know all about the requirements before actually applying to the program. Following are the requirements mentioned by the school –

a) GMAT/GRE score – The mean GMAT score of the most recent class of the Kellogg MBA program is 727. The range of GMAT score is 640-770. On the other hand, the median score in the Verbal, as well as Quant section of the GRE exam, is 163. The range of score in the Verbal section is 150-169 and the range of score in the Quant section is 151-170.

GMAT or GRE score is optional for Northwestern University undergraduates.

b) For international applicants, a score in TOEFL is required. Although if an applicant has completed her/his program from a university school that was conducted entirely in English, a TOEFL score is not required.

c) Brief essays – This is an opportunity to let them know about your personal achievements and skills.

d) Letter of recommendation – This should obviously come from a person who knows the applicant well in an academic capacity and can answer specific questions regarding the applicant.

Application Process

Application opens in early December and the last date to apply for the Kellogg Deferred MBA program is in the first week of April and the decision is released by the first week of June. There is no application fee. After the evaluation of the application, invitations to interviews are sent to selected applicants. Once an application is granted admission to the program, she/he needs to pay a $500 deposit each year. Once the classes are started after the end of the deferment period, the $500 collected each year will go to the tuition balance.
