Rotman School MBA Program  – Course Curriculum

The total duration of the Rotman School MBA Program is of 20 months which consists of an academic session of 16 months and an opportunity of 4 months for a flexible and paid internship.

Majors and Area Specializations

There are 15 such areas in which Rotman School offers majors across different fields like Brand Management, Investment Banking, Financial Reporting, and Analysis, Social Impact and Sustainability, Health Sector Management, etc.

Elective Courses

Other than these, there are more than 100 elective courses from which a student can choose 12 courses. Some of these elective courses are Business Law, Catastrophic Failure in Organizations, Communicating Strategy, etc.

Combined Degree and Specialization Programs

There are some joint and combined degree programs created by Rotman and the University of Toronto professional faculties of law and engineering along with other disciplines like environmental studies and political science. Some of them are Faculty of Law (JD/MBA), Pharmacy (PharmD-MBA), etc.

International Exchanges

Rotman School MBA Program also provides the opportunity to do a three-month term with any of the 24 partner universities of Rotman across 17 different countries like Australia, France, Germany, Netherlands, etc.

Rotman School MBA Program – Eligibility Criteria & Entry Requirements

Like any other good MBA school, there are some eligibility criteria to apply for Rotman School MBA Program which have been discussed here –

Bachelor’s Degree

There is a requirement of a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree that should have been obtained from a recognized university. The degree can be in any discipline. Approximately 20% of their applicants have an undergraduate business or commerce degree but the rest come from diverse backgrounds.

Work Experience

Rotman School strongly recommends a work experience of a minimum duration of 2 years.

Exams

A good GMAT/GRE score is required to apply for this school. A score of 550 and higher is considered quite good. The condition of the GMAT score is waived off if the applicant has cleared 3 levels of CFA. Although the average GMAT score of the last class of Rotman was around 669.

Proficiency tests of English language like TOEFL/IELTS

An overall TOEFL iBT score of 100 is required with a minimum of 22 on speaking and writing. An IELTS score of 7.0 is required with a minimum of 6.5 for each component.

In addition to these, there is a requirement of 2 professional references. 1 essay question needs to be prepared to apply for Rotman. There are 4 deadlines for applications in a year and 1 for an early round. International students are required to apply before round 3.

Rotman School MBA Program – Placement Statistics

The mean annual salary of their class of 2019 was CAD 115, 926 including bonuses and other compensations. The mean monthly internship salary for the class of the year 2020 was CAD 5500. Another important fact to look at is their employment rate under 6 months of graduation from this school which is 90%. They also award scholarships worth CAD 6 million every year to deserving students. There are different scholarships available for students. Some of them are Joseph L. Rotman Scholarship, Entrance Awards, 30% Club Full-Time MBA Scholarship.

Joseph L. Rotman Scholarship is awarded to 2 exceptional students every year. This is for the complete tuition value. Entrance Awards are awarded every year to about one-third of their students which ranges between CAD 10,000 to CAD 90000. They also offer half-tuition to one exceptional female student.

How to Apply for Rotman School MBA Program

A student needs to check her/his eligibility criteria as mentioned above and then can apply for the Rotman School MBA Program. There are different steps in the application process.

1) Application –

For the first step, the applicant should have all the things prepared mentioned in the above section like transcripts of the bachelor’s degree, GMAT Score, essay, recommendations, IELTS/TOEFL score, resume, etc. As part of the applications, the applicants need to submit the one-way video interviews.

Rotman wants to know about the applicants’ spike factor in the essay question. The last essay posted by Rotman was

“What are the things that you have done in your life that demonstrate Passion/ Grit/ Resilience/ Innovation/ Drive/ Ambition and more?”

Once this stage is clear, only then, the next step of the admission process will occur.

2) Interview –

The selected applicants will be called for an interview with an Assistant Director which can be in-person or through Skype. Once you get an invite for the interview process, you should consider half work done but the other half is as difficult as it can be. The Rotman School approaches all the applicants with a holistic approach which means that all the components have equal weightage.

Interview Tips

There are some good tips for cracking the interview at Rotman. By looking at these tips, we would get to know what exactly they are looking for in the applicants.

1) They clearly recommend not repeating what an applicant has already written in her/his essay. They go through every essay thoroughly because of which repetition is not encouraged.

Similarly, reading what already is in one’s resume is also discouraged. They want to hear about your work in your own words.

2) Communication Skills and the overall presentation of an applicant plays an important role in the selection process. So, one needs to be careful while doing any kind of written or oral communication with the school officials.

3) Professionalism is also important in the whole process. Properly asking meaningful questions plays a crucial role in judging an applicant’s personality.

We can conclude by saying that one should be an overall good performer on most of the fronts in order to get to the Rotman School MBA Program.
