Eligibility:

If you are not from the EU or EEA, you will have to apply for an Ireland student visa. There are generally two types of visa that are as follows:

-C-type study visa: It is for students whose course lasts for less than 3 months (90 days).

-D-type study visa: It is for the students whose program lasts longer than 3 months. You must also register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau, which grants permission to stay in Ireland beyond the initial 90 days.

Before you begin with applying for an Ireland student visa, make sure you pass all the eligibility requirements that are as follows:

-You must have a valid passport that is valid for at least 12 months after your proposed date of arrival in Ireland.

-You must have been accepted by an accredited school or university of Ireland.

-You can prove your financial strength by necessary supporting documents.

-You can submit evidence of your English language proficiency.

-You promise to obey all the rules & conditions throughout your stay in Ireland.

-You promise to leave the state on the expiry of your student visa.

-You do not have any criminal charges against you.

Documents Required:

You will need the following documents to apply for the Ireland student visa:

1. Your valid passport

2. A signed letter of application

3. Evidence of Enrollment

4. Evidence of Financial Support

5. Evidence of English Proficiency

6. Medical Insurance Cover

7. Additional Documents

The details of all these documents are given below:

1. Valid passport:

Your current passport must be valid for at least 12 months after your proposed date of arrival in Ireland. You must also submit a full copy of all the previous passports.

2. A signed letter of application:

To complete your application for the Ireland student visa, you must submit a signed letter of application, including the following:

-Outlining your reason for wanting to come to Ireland.

-Details of any members of your family who are currently in Ireland, or any other EU member state.

-Undertaking to obey the rules & promise to leave Ireland once your program finishes.

-If the course that you now wish to study does not naturally follow on or relate to your educational/employment history, you must give a valid reason supported by documentary evidence (where available) for this change.

3. Evidence of Enrollment:

You must submit the letter of acceptance as proof of your enrollment in an accredited school or university of Ireland.

4. Evidence of Financial Support:

You must submit the evidence of your financial strength, including the evidence that your tuition fees have been paid to the college.

5. Evidence of English Proficiency:

Since Ireland is an English speaking country, international students are required to prove their command over the English language by submitting evidence of a globally recognized English language test.

6. Medical Insurance Cover:

A private medical insurance cover is required by all the students in Ireland, including international students. Your college may arrange this on your behalf. If so, the details of this must be included in your letter of acceptance. If not, you must organize this yourself & provide evidence with your application.

7. Additional Documents:

Furthermore, you may also be required to submit some additional documents, including your birth certificate, character certificate, custodial consent (in case you are a minor), accommodation certificate, etc.

How to apply?

You can apply for an Ireland student visa up to 3 months before your date of arrival.

To apply, you will have to complete an online application form on the official website of the Irish Naturalization and Immigration Service.

Make sure you have all the supporting documents necessary to submit while filling your form. The absence of any required documents will result in delay or rejection of your application.

Once you complete the application form, you will have to pay a non-refundable visa application fee of €60.

You may also be required to provide your biometric details as part of the application process. If so, you will be informed & instructed about the same from the visa officers.

What happens after you apply?

Once you submit your application for the Ireland student visa, it will be processed in date order.

The visa office recommends not purchasing your travel tickets before knowing the outcome of your visa application.

Processing time for the application varies from country to country. However, applicants can expect a decision within 8 weeks from the date of submitting the application.

If the visa officers require any additional documents during the evaluation of your application, you will need to provide the same at the earliest. Once evaluated, they will let you know the final decision, whether your Ireland student visa has been approved or rejected.

Arriving in Ireland:

After your visa is approved by the visa officers, you can book a ticket & fly to Ireland. Once you land in the country, you will have to go through immigration clearance.

In many cases, you can also apply for preclearance before traveling to Ireland. It makes the immigration process very clear & easy.

Please note that you should keep all the necessary documents in your carry-on baggage all the time. The immigration officers may ask you to show any documents during the screening process. Only if they are satisfied, they will let you enter the country.
