WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management is a business school with campuses in Vallender and Dusseldorf, Germany. It is a private business school that is established in 1984. The school offers several undergraduate, postgraduate, & doctoral programs. The school has also been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS). WHU Otto Beisheim School is one of the four German business schools to hold both this accreditation. The WHU Otto Beisheim MBA Program has been ranked #1 in Germany & #15 in Europe by the Financial Times in its Global MBA Ranking 2020.

Curriculum:

The first five months of the WHU Otto Beisheim MBA Program comprise mandatory core modules that provide a solid foundation in basic management concepts and core organizational functions. Some of the core subjects include Managerial Finance, Financial Accounting, Marketing, Corporate Finance, Operations Management, Management Accounting, etc.

In addition to the core modules, you will also study elective modules. These advanced courses will provide you deeper insights on strategy and organization, marketing and sales, entrepreneurship and innovation, and advanced finance and build on the knowledge obtained in the core modules.

The WHU Otto Beisheim MBA Program also includes three study-abroad weeks, two in Asia and one in the US. The Asia module takes place in India & China and focuses on chances, challenges, & risks of doing business in emerging markets.

The school’s academic partner in India is IIM Bangalore. And in China, it is Fudan University, CEIBS Shanghai, & Guanghua School of Management.

Eligibility:

Academic Requirement:

The school requires a first-class bachelor’s degree in any discipline or its international equivalent. There is no minimum graduate GPA required to apply for the WHU Otto Beisheim MBA Program.

Professional Requirement:

Candidates applying for the WHU Otto Beisheim MBA Program must have a minimum of two years of postgraduate work experience. The average work experience of the current class is 5 years.

Standardized Tests:

The school accepts both the GMAT & GRE test scores. There is no preference mentioned by the school. A minimum score of 600 is recommended for GMAT or an equivalent GRE score.

Additionally, if English is not your native language, you must also submit an English proficiency test like TOEFL or IELTS. The minimum score requirement for TOEFL & IELTS is 100 and 7.0, respectively.

Course Fee:

The total tuition fee for the WHU Otto Beisheim MBA Program is €39,000. It includes all tuition fees, books and materials, personal development seminar fees, accommodation during the international modules, & other preparation courses.

Other than this, the average estimated living expenses for one month come at €750-800.

However, it varies according to the student’s choice of lifestyle.

For the class of 2017, the median salary received by the students was €66,000. Reportedly, 66% of the students changed function, 64% changed sector, 60% changed location, & 31% changed all of the three.

Interview:

After your application is shortlisted by the admissions committee, you will receive an invitation to interview. The interview is generally conducted by the WHU faculty, staff, or alumni.

If you’re based out of Germany, there are higher chances of your interview being conducted via Skype or telephone.

During the interview, you can expect general MBA interview questions, qualitative questions, & behavioral questions. The interviewer basically wants to know about the impact of your actions.

Essay Details & Tips:

To complete your application for the WHU Otto Beisheim MBA Program, you will have to submit the response of the essay questions. The school asks different essay questions every year. For the academic session 2019-20, the school asked the following essays from the applicants:

Essay 1: What are your reasons, both professional and personal, for applying for an MBA program? What are some skills or key competencies you would like to develop when studying at WHU? (300 words)

Essay 2: What are your plans for the first 3-5 years after graduation? What are your long-term career aspirations? How do you think the WHU MBA will help you to achieve your goals? (320 words)

Essay 3: Why do you want to study at WHU? (200 words)

Essay 4: What sets you apart from other applicants? Why are you a perfect fit for the WHU MBA? (190 words)

As you can see, the questions very much revolve around the applicant. The admissions committee wants to know more about you, your goals, short term & long term plans, and how will you contribute to the WHU community. So make sure that your essay reflects all these points. Be very clear & concise throughout the composition. Always remember that these essays play a very important role in your evaluation process.
