Curriculum

The curriculum of the Kellogg MBA program is very rigorous & designed uniquely. The school provides you with a one-year MBA program & two-year MBA program. Through the Kellogg one-year MBA program, students can finish their MBA faster. Unlike other such one-year MBA programs, Kellogg does not consolidate two years of classes into one rather, it gives the students an option to bypass core courses and focus only on electives that will help you achieve your career goals.

The two-year MBA program starts with core courses on management skills to help you become a leader by gaining fundamental business knowledge. And once you complete the required core courses, you can choose subjects from a wide range of electives, & 1,000+ experiential learning opportunities, according to your future goals. Core courses include subjects like Finance, Marketing Management, Microeconomics Analysis, Business Analytics, Accounting for decision making, etc.

The school encourages students to waive some of the above-stated core courses if they already have an in-depth knowledge of the same, and instead focus on taking a good number of electives. In addition to cores & electives, Kellogg has one of the largest exchange programs with nearly 80+ full-time MBA students participating in 25+ Kellogg’s partner schools.

Eligibility

  1. Bachelors in any discipline

There is no minimum score requirement for your class 12th or graduation results. The school only requires you to have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree from an accredited school or university. However, it must be noted that the average GPA of the class of 2021 is 3.6, which proves that the admissions committee gives due weightage to your academic results.

  1. Work Experience

According to the official website of the Kellogg School of Management, there is no minimum work experience required for applying to the Kellogg MBA program but the school values demonstrated professional experience in the students. The average work experience of the class of 2021 is 5-years, with a range (middle 80%) of 3.5-7 years.

  1. Test

The school accepts both GMAT and GRE scores. There is no minimum cutoff mentioned by the school yet. However, the average GMAT score of the class of 2021 stands at 730, with a range of 620-780. Along with this, international students are required to take English Proficiency Tests like TOEFL or IELTS to prove their command over the English language. Please note that a previous study of business/economics is a must requirement for students applying for the one-year MBA program. Also, introductory courses in calculus and statistics are preferred before your enrollment in the program.

Course Fee

For the academic session 2020-21, the estimated cost of tuition of one-year MBA programs is $103,316 & for the two-year program is $74,841. Along with the tuition fees, there are other expenses like room & board ($17,100), books & supplies ($1,647), travel ($1,329), health insurance ($4,176), computer equipment ($1,200), student activity & student association fee ($1,730), and personal expenses ($4,170), which an international student should take into consideration. The total amount for one year comes at around $107,197 (which is around 80,00,000 INR)

Scholarship

The Kellogg school of management provides several scholarship options to its students, irrespective of nationalities. There are Merit-based scholarships which are awarded to exceptional students with superb academics & demonstrated excellence. There is no separate application required to apply for this scholarship. All the applicants are automatically considered. Some of the famous awards include Kellogg Scholarships, David Himmelblau Scholarship, PepsiCo Scholarship, etc.

Austin scholarship is one of the largest scholarships that Kellogg offers. The decision is made based on the leadership quality demonstrated by the applicant, academically & professionally. Finance fellowship is yet another well-known scholarships provided by the school to finance enthusiasts, who are committed to making an impact in the finance world.

Along with this, there are Need-based scholarships (provided to applicants who are looking for financial assistance), second-year scholarships (offered to second-year students who have proved their mettle in the first year with their strong leadership & academic excellence), & private students loan options (provided by various banks & financial institutions).

Placements

Kellogg was among the top 3 prominent business schools to report a record year for its MBA graduates in 2019. Around 98% received an offer within 3-months of graduating, out of which 95% accepted the offer. The median salary of the batch was $140,000, along with the median signing bonus of $30,000. Around 83.6% of graduates received a signing bonus amount from the leading companies.

  1. Interview:

Kellogg is known as the first business school in the world to begin with interviewing applicants to evaluate their leadership potential. Interviews help the committee in evaluating your interpersonal & leadership skills. After you apply, you may get an interview invite from the admissions committee. The school asks the selected applicants to indicate their preference for an on-campus or off-campus interview. On-campus interviews are scheduled online. Various slots are available & students can choose any slot as per their convenience.

Please note that slot preference is available to students on a first-come, first-serve basis. For the students opting for an off-campus interview, the admissions committee gets them in contact with one of the Kellogg alumni in their geographical area. The interview lasts for 30-45 minutes and includes general business school interview questions.

Please note that there is a chance that Interviews may be waived for selected students because of high-demand for interviews & limited interviewers. In such a case, the admissions committee will contact you & schedule for you a phone or Skype interview.

Essay Details & Tips

Kellogg essay topics are very thoughtful and require you to spend a quality amount of time before writing your composition. Be very sure of your future goals, past achievements, and how you are the right fit for the Kellogg MBA Program. Two essays are mandatory for every student to answer. They are:

  1. Kellogg’s purpose is to educate, equip, and inspire brave leaders who create lasting value. Provide a recent example where you have demonstrated leadership and created value. What challenges did you face, and what did you learn? (450 words)
  2. Values are what guide you in your life and work. What values are important to you, and how have they influenced you? (450 words)

Along with the above two essay questions, the applicants applying for a one-year MBA program have to answer the following question as well.

Please discuss your post-MBA career goal, the current experience you will leverage to support the transition, and the Kellogg 1Y opportunities that will help you reach this goal. (250 words)

Kellogg also provides an optional essay for applicants who need to clarify or explain something regarding their application. It can be about your academia, unexplained work-gaps, or anything which you feel is not clear in your application. Along with the above long-essays, Kellogg also asks its applicants to submit 3-video-essays (similar to INSEAD MBA Program)

The questions asked are:

1: Please introduce yourself to the admissions committee.

2: What path are you interested in pursuing, how will you get there, and why is this program right for you?

3: The third question will ask about a challenge you have faced.

These short video essays will help the admissions committee to evaluate your application in an even better manner.
