Career in film making
Agar ye tujhe pyaar karti hai tho ye tujhe palat kar dekhegi …. Palat.. Palat.. Palat! Do you think about movies all the time? Are you obsessed with them? If yes then career in film making is for you. They say do what you love and love what you do but the majority of the times especially when it comes to such unconventional careers people tend to give in to the wishes of the society, their parents, and to the want for stability. Give in as you may but will you be as happy as you are with the movies? Let me take you through the ins and outs of this industry and then you can decide.
First things first you need to know what jobs are actually there. You know it’s not as flowery and as sparkly as it seems, it takes a lot of work (mundane work included) to create that magic that we see on the screen. So without further ado lets see what you can become:
1) The Script Writer
Only a good script can make a blockbuster movie and that’s why career opportunity in the film industry as a scriptwriter or a screenwriter is high. The scriptwriter either adopts the story of someone or he writes it from scratch by conducting required research on the subject. He further develops a script with multiple versions until it satisfies the director. He also narrates camera angles, lights, shots, etc. to get a perfect shot. In a nutshell, it is worth pursuing a career in film making if you are a storyteller.
2) Cinematographer
The whole responsibility of projecting the real mood of the scene and ultimately the story is on the shoulder of the cinematographer. A cinematographer is responsible for correct lighting, camera angle, effect, etc., which creates the real feel of the ongoing scene. It is a creative role in filmmaking and usually works with almost each unit member such as director, writer, cameraman, production team, etc. Being a key role in the filmmaking, it gives an amazing career opportunity in the film industry.
3) Casting Director
Indeed an important role in the film industry is being a casting director. The task of watching a lot of different reels, taking auditions, checking portfolios, and out of hundreds or thousands of options, choosing the one who can give justice to the role is not an easy task from any point. This important role of understanding the script and the role and choose the right person to live that role up to the mark and beyond is the duty of a casting director. Despite all challenges one would face, it is a career worth exploring in the filmmaking industry.
4) Assistant Director
If you dream to become a successful director, your journey starts from the step of being an assistant director (AD). The job of an AD in the filmmaking is to maintain the actor call sheets, hosting meetings with the production team, taking care of locations, sets, and entire film shoot. He also takes care of marketing material for film promotions and managing the post-production course in filmmaking. Each successful director in India started as an AD.
5) Director
The director is the one who transforms a vision into a real film that reaches the heart of the audience. The director takes almost all decisions and leads the film towards success. In filmmaking, the director stays involved in pre-production, production, and post-production processes to make sure everything is as per the plan. Definitely, this is the best career opportunity in the film industry.
