Why TOEFL?

Usually, the students who appear in the TOEFL exam are planning to or have already planned to study abroad moreover The TOEFL exam enables students to be eligible for numerous scholarships and helps them take up abroad employment via their visa application process. It is accepted worldwide in over 11,000 Universities and Institutions including Australian universities, Canadian universities, universities in New Zealand, universities in the UK, universities in the United States, and Universities across Europe and Asia.

TOEFL exam registrations are available and accessible to any participant via an online platform 24/7. You can also register for the exam through your phone or email or with the help of an authorized agent in person. An important note to keep in mind is that the registration for this exam closes 7 days before the date of examination while the late registration closes four days before the examination date with an additional late fee of US$40. Besides, Indian applicants have to pay an application fee of US$185.

The TOEFL exam is conducted in two modes- the internet-based mode and the paper-based mode. The fee for TOEFL iBT is US$185 and that for TOEFL paper-based exam is US$180. The scores are divided into four categories:

Reading – 0 to 30

Writing – 0 to 30

Listening – 0 to 30

Speaking – 0 to 30

However, the TOEFL iBT is always preferred over the TOEFL paper-based exam as it represents more than 98% of the total to all tests attempted worldwide whereas the paper-based version is only available in locations with no internet or comparatively fewer internet services.

TOEFL Exam Pattern (All about TOEFL exam)

The TOEFL test is broadly divided into four sections as mentioned before, namely, reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Not to mention, the more you practice sample papers for the TOEFL exams, the better you will get at achieving high scores. Each section amounts to 30 marks, and in total the exam amounts to 120 marks. The scores are always posted online 6 days after the date of examination. These reports are sent individually to the institutions of the participant by the Educational Testing Services (ETS).

Syllabus of TOEFL Exam

By now it must be clear that the syllabus of the TOEFL iBT exam comprises reading, writing, listening, and speaking skill sections. But this isn’t All about TOEFL exam. TOEFL Reading Syllabus (All about TOEFL exam)

The reading section comprises 3 to 4 comprehension passages, which the participant is supposed to read completely and answer 10 questions based on each passage. The scoring of this section depends on the number of correct reading comprehension responses. In total there are about 30 to 40 questions from all three to four passages and the total time allotted for the section is 54 to 72 minutes.

TOEFL Listening Syllabus (All about TOEFL exam)

The listening section comprises lectures and conversations based on the campus’s primary language. The main aim of this section is to understand the participant’s ability to grasp conversations and lectures in English. You need to listen to basic comprehension, understand it, connect to it, and synthesize the information accordingly. The questions are divided into two sets, the first set consists of three to four lectures of about 3 to 5 minutes long each with 500 to 800 words and the second set consists of 6 questions each. The second set of listening sections consists of 2 to 3 conversations lasting 3 minutes each, wherein 12 to 25 exchanges take place and every conversation consists of 5 questions each. On average, the total time required to answer this section is about 41 to 57 moments.

TOEFL Speaking Syllabus (All about TOEFL exam)

The speaking section of the TOEFL exam consists of tasks and for you to score the highest, you should be able to fulfil the demands of every given task (not to mention minor mistakes or lapses are allowed). You will be evaluated based on a highly intelligent and sustained conversation that the evaluator is seeking. The Speaking skills are judged on three main factors, namely, delivery, language use, and topic development. Every participant will be assigned one independent task where you will be given 15 seconds to prepare and 45 seconds to respond + 3 integrated tasks wherein you have to read, listen, and speak respectively. Thus, it makes a total of four questions and the total time allotted is 17 minutes for this section.

TOEFL Writing Syllabus

In the writing section, every participant is supposed to write two essays, each addressing a unique topic. You can use relevant explanations and detailed support to organise and well-develop your response. The essays should demonstrate unity, progression, and coherence. Anyone who wishes to score high should make sure to demonstrate the syntactic variety with an appropriate word limit and very few to zero minor grammatical errors. The questions are divided into two types – the first is an integrated task that requires you to read, listen, and write in 3 minutes, 2 minutes, and 15 minutes respectively. This makes a total of 20 minutes. While the second is an independent task prolonging 30 minutes. Therefore, the section comprises 2 questions in total and the time allotted is 50 minutes.
