Nanyang MBA Program is offered by the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Located in the heart of Southeast Asia, NTU is the second oldest public autonomous research university in Singapore. Nanyang business school is the largest business school in Singapore, with over 6,800 undergraduates and post-graduates. The Nanyang MBA program has been ranked #1 in Singapore #3 in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the Financial Times. For 13 consecutive years, the Nanyang MBA program has also been ranked best in Singapore by the Economist. The typical class size of the Nanyang MBA Program consists of 80-100 students from 20 countries. The average age of the students is 28 years, and they come with an average work experience of 6 years. The program includes 40% of female candidates and 85% of international students. In this article, we shall let you know more about the Nanyang MBA Program.

Curriculum

The Nanyang MBA program is a 12-month intense program that allows students to choose from five different tracks, including banking & finance, strategy & innovation, general management, marketing management, & human capital management. Students are required to complete nine core courses that are designed to provide a solid foundation of knowledge and analytical tools essentials for business and management. Some of the core subjects include Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Strategic Management, Corporate governance & ethics, & Technology and e-business. Students are also required to choose four electives according to their selected tracks. Some of the elective subjects include Managerial decision making, Strategic HRM, Digital marketing, Strategic brand management, Entrepreneurship, International Finance, Advanced data analytics, etc.

The curriculum also includes a mandatory strategy project where students collaborate with the school’s industry partners. It is a unique opportunity for students to work with organizations on live consulting projects. Students apply their classroom learning to solve a real-world problem and come up with realistic recommendations for the partner organization. With a motive to let students gain global experience, the school also provides Business Study Missions (BSM). The program seeks to enrich participants’ knowledge on doing business through company visits in various countries around the world. Some of the previous BSM destinations were Argentina, Myanmar, New Zealand, Japan, & China.

The program helps you understand the opportunities and challenges of doing business in a particular country. The school, through its Leading People Globally program, aims to give a theoretical and practical understanding of what is required to lead people in organizations, whether locally or globally. Students gain insight into leadership competencies and a deeper understanding of managing talents. Topics covered under this program are Leadership, Negotiations, Talent management, & Cultural intelligence.

Eligibility

Academic Requirement:

Students are required to have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. There is no minimum graduate GPA required to apply for the Nanyang NBA Program.

Professional Experience:

A minimum of at least 2-years of full-time post-graduate experience is required to apply for the MBA program. The average work experience of the class is generally 5-6 years every year.

Standardized Tests:

A valid GMAT or GRE score is a must requirement to apply for the Nanyang MBA Program. Applicants must have a GMAT score of 600 or above. The typical GMAT average of the class is 660. Additionally, students who are from non-native English speaking countries are required to take English proficiency tests like TOEFL & IELTS. The minimum score requirement for TOEFL is 100 or above for Internet-based test and IELTS, a score-band of 6.5 or above.

Fees

The one-year tuition fee for the Nanyang MBA Program is SGD 62,000 (that is USD 45,000). Students are also required to pay a one-time miscellaneous fee of SGD 522. Additionally, the estimated living and traveling expenses for a single student for the 12-month program typically comes at USD 25,000. The school has on-campus accommodation options with facilities like common pantries, laundry rooms, & TV lounge.

Scholarships

The school provides several awards to help admitted participants. The scholarship decisions are announced at certain periods, typically not together with the admissions offer. There is no separate application required to apply for the scholarships. Applicants will be asked to tick on relevant scholarships required when filling the online admission application.

Nanyang Women in Business Scholarship:

It is awarded to talented and motivated women who demonstrate the potential to make significant contributions both during and after the MBA.

Nanyang Global Citizen Scholarship:

It is open to all individuals who have lived or worked in two or more countries. The duration of each country must be more than one year. The scholarship decision is based on the applicant’s rich experience in dealing with diversity.

The Sellappah Scholarships:

This award is sponsored by the Nanyang business school’s alumni Mr. Pravin Raj, in memories of his grandfather. The scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to candidates from developing countries who demonstrate a commitment to making a positive contribution to the development of their respective home countries.

Other than these awards, students can also avail of private loan options.

The school recommends Indian students the SBI student loan. International students can also avail loans from Prodigy Finance.

Placements

Reportedly, 98% of the students from the class of 2017 were employed within 3-months of graduation. 37% of the students were placed within Singapore, followed by East Asia and Europe with 30% and 12%, respectively. The average starting salary received by students was SGD 169,499. Moreover, the average alumni salary 3-years after graduation is USD 132,288.

Interview:

After the initial interview review of the application, you may be invited for the interview. The interview invite is communicated through the email. It is strictly by invitation only. The interview is conducted on-campus, off-campus at major cities, or through Skype and lasts for 30 minutes. Generally, the members of the admissions committee conduct the interview, but in many cases, school alumni also take interviews with the students. After the interview, if selected, you will be notified by an email. To confirm the acceptance, students are needed to pay a non-refundable enrollment fee of SGD 10,000, which later gets adjusted to your total tuition fees.

Last year, applicants applying for the Nanyang MBA Program were required to submit the following three essays.

Briefly assess your career progress to date. Elaborate on your near term (3 – 5 years) future career objectives and how pursuing an MBA will help you achieve them. (Maximum 400 words)

NANYANG MBA ESSAY-2

Tell us about two achievements (one as a leader and one as a team member) that you are most proud of, and why you feel that to be so. (Maximum 400 words)

NANYANG MBA ESSAY-3

Share with us a situation where you faced adversity. Describe how you resolved/managed it and what you learned from the experience. (Maximum 400 words)

Along with the above three essays, the school also asked for an essay on “Social Responsibility”.

Briefly describe your involvement in any Social Responsibility or Sustainable Development activities (maximum 150 words)

Through these essays, the admissions committee looks forward to knowing you personally and professionally. For the first essay, be very clear regarding your career goals. The school admits students with vision. For the second and third essays, you must demonstrate your leadership skills and how you perform under adversities.

For the last essay on Social responsibility, choose something that you’ve worked on for the upliftment of a particular segment of society. With a class size of around 100 students every year, making into the Nanyang MBA Program is not an easy task. The selection process is very competitive & selective. So give your best.
