Mcdonough School MBA Program is a 21-month long program offered by the business School of Georgetown University. The Mcdonough School of business has been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Founded in 1957, the institution is one of the University’s nine constituents. The Mcdonough School MBA Program is ranked #30 by the Financial Times in its Global MBA Ranking 2020. The school boasts of an alumni network of 11,000 members. For the class of 2021, 275 students enrolled for the Mcdonough School MBA Program. Among them, 30% of the students are women candidates, and 30% are international students. Curriculum

The curriculum for the Mcdonough School MBA Program is challenging. The emphasis lies on ethical leadership within a global management framework. Students begin their MBA journey with a week-long course on “Leading teams for performance and impact”, which draws behavioral science research and professional practice to provide an interactive, engaging, and focused experience in leadership development. There are a total of 15 required core courses that provides a foundation for managerial success in the global market place.

Some of the core subjects include Accounting Fundamentals, Firm Analysis & Strategy, Managerial Statistics, Ethical Leadership, Corporate Financial Reporting, Leadership Communication, etc. From the second semester onwards, students can tailor their MBA program by taking electives in addition to the core courses. Students are not required to choose an area of concentration; rather they can customize their academics by selecting electives from more than 70-course offerings. Some of the popular electives include Financial Market & Crisis, Investment Banking, Consumer Behavior, Human Resource Management, Power & Politics, Strategic Pricing, Global Marketing, etc.

The school also offers Intensive Learning Experience (ILEs), where elective courses are offered in a short period of one-two weeks. Some of the electives that come under IELs are Digital Advertising, Startup Factory, Mutual Funds, Data Visualization, & Infrastructure Finance. Along with the above program, students are also required to participate in an international consulting project for the Global business experience. In this program, students travel to different countries around the world to work with companies to solve real-world business problems.

The school also offers the students with full semester study abroad opportunities at renowned institutions like HEC Paris, ESADE Barcelona, Beijing International MBA, Perking University, IAE Argentina, & Copenhagen Business School, Denmark.

Eligibility

The school looks for diverse, technically strong, critical-thinker & motivated applicants with a global mindset and demonstrated leadership skills.

Academic Requirement:

Applicants must have a 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or an equivalent degree from a foreign country. There is no minimum graduate GPA required to apply for the Mcdonough School MBA Program, but the average GPA of the class of 2021 is 3.31.

Professional Experience:

The school strongly recommends interested applicants to have a 2-year full-time post-graduation work experience. Typically, the school does not admit students directly from the undergraduate programs. The average work experience of the class is generally five years.

Standardized Tests:

A valid GMAT or GRE score is a must requirement to apply for the program. Although there are no minimum score requirements mentioned by the school, a competitive score will undoubtedly give you an edge over others. For GMAT, the average score of the class of 2021 is 694. And for GRE, the average score of quants & verbal sections is 157 and 158, respectively. International students who are non-native English speakers are required to take the English Proficiency Tests like TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS to prove their command over the English language. This requirement can be waived, if the applicant has obtained a degree from a school/university where English is the primary language of instructions. The minimum score requirement for these tests are as follows:

TOEFL: 250 or above (for computer-based), 600 or above (for paper pen-based), & 100 or above (for Internet based test).

IELTS: 7.5 or above

PTE: 68 or above

Course Fee

The one-year tuition fee for the Mcdonough School MBA Program comes at $60,894. Candidates are also required to pay a student activity fee of $35 and Healthcare insurance of $2,950. Other than the tuition fees, the estimated living expenses for one year is $31,168. It includes housing & meals ($22,696), books & supplies ($2,646), travel & transportation ($2,606), & loan fees ($3,220).

Scholarship

The school offers $1.5 million in scholarships every year. For the class of 2021, 45% of enrolled full-time students were awarded partially to full tuition fees. The school encourages the interested applicants to apply in early rounds of applications, to best position themselves for scholarship contributions. John F. Delay Scholarship:

It is a merit-based award. The award amount & number of awards vary every year. The scholarship is offered to students with a demonstrated interest in gender equality. The applicant must have a history of supporting the causes of gender parity.

Steers Center for Global Real Estate Scholarship:

The award is offered to students with a demonstrated & expressed interest in pursuing a career in real-estate. All the applicants are considered for this award. Other than the merit-based awards, the school also provides need-based scholarships to students seeking financial support. Students can also explore external scholarships, private loan schemes, & other fellowship opportunities.

Placements

Reportedly, 95% of the class of 2019 received job offers within 3-months of graduation. The average salary received was $124,119, a 6% increase since the last year. And the average signing bonus received was $30,737. Nearly 85% of employment opportunities were facilitated by the school, while 15% was by graduates. Interview:

After an initial evaluation of your application, you may be invited for the interview. The interview is by invitation only. It can either be held on-campus or via Skype and is conducted by the second-year students or admissions committee members. The interview generally lasts for 30 minutes and includes general MBA interview questions. The Mcdonough School follows a blind interview approach, and your interviewer only has access to your resume. The school recommends the applicants to stay relaxed & be genuine throughout the interview process.

The school offers the applicants to select one essay (from a list of three) that allows them the ability to best highlight their experiences, characteristics, and values that showcase the value proposition that they can bring to the McDonough community.
